Concert Dream Come True!

Our Pachyderm Summer Concert was a hit! Thanks to all the families and friends who came out and supported our awesome students. Not gonna lie. I teared up when I looked around and saw all the people that showed up for their kids and were looking at our outdoor stage with pride!!! It's been a dream of mine to have a big show at the Lab since we opened and to see it finally happen with such ease was humbling and beautiful. <3

We hope to do another concert this fall with Secret Sound Society and our privately instructed students, stay tuned! First I want to give a shoutout to the two students who have been with us the longest, Zayvn (6) and Liam (9).

Zayvn wowed us with his bass skills! He also surprised everyone when he rocked out on kazoo while playing bass on Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds"! He shared a song that he wrote called "The Zayvn Song" with his own sweet bass line, too. We learned about his best friend and his love for Marvel superhero, Black Panther. He also told us about his brand new baby sister, Zage :) Such an impressive kid!

Liam crushed it on drums! He played along to "Hey Jude" and showed us all those sweet Ringo Starr parts, even the killer drum fills. It was really impressive! Eric, his teacher, told us about how smart Liam is and what an awesome student he has been. We are all so proud of him.

Secret Sound Society rocked out as 2 different bands. "Boom Boom Jenkins & the Weirdos" and the "Reincarnicats". We learned about their wild band names and they played fantastic renditions of "Undone (The Sweater Song)" by Weezer and "Zombie" by the Cranberries.

At one of our last band practices the kids and I sat down in the floor of our giant practice space for a chat. We talked about what we have learned in the past month as we have played music together and cataloged vinyl records. It was a fun discussion to say the least!

It's been a really cool process exposing teens to vinyl records from days long passed. Sometimes they have gotten curious enough to throw some oddball records on the turntable. One of the records even inspired their band name.

I'm going to keep Secret Sound Society rolling throughout the school year. We still have plenty of work to do on the cataloging portion of things! I'd love to have some more volunteer help in exchange for music lessons. You can register for September Sound Society Here. Cost is $120. Kids can work at Pachyderm and work off their tuition. They have to show up and work though!

Secret Sound Society is meeting up on Wednesdays in September. We'll add in another day once we get a few more under our belt.

PML is looking to register more students for private lessons on drums, keys, guitar, ukulele, and bass! Mention this blog post and get 40% off your first lesson!!!
